“The Zen master Ling Chi said that the miracle is not to walk on burning charcoal or in the thin air or on the water; the miracle is just to walk on earth. You breathe in. You become aware of the fact that you are alive. You are still alive and you are walking on this beautiful planet….The greatest of […]
Double rainbow on Green Hill Farm “Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson Enjoy your day!
Farmgirl and Clementine Kitty Mornings on Green Hill Farm This is how I greet every morning on Green Hill Farm…with sweet Clementine nuzzling my hand and encouraging wakefulness with her dainty kitty kisses. I love Clemmie Cat, and I’m grateful for such a lovely beginning to each day. This may seem like a little thing, but […]
We have a large window over our stairwell that looks onto the garden and fields. One evening last week as I hurried down the stairs, I happened to glance out the window. This was my view. I started to walk on, because I had a bunch of things to do, but something encouraged me to pause and take another look. […]
“One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life. That word is love.” ~Sophocles “When we come upon beautiful things…they act like small tears in the surface of the world that pull us through to some vaster space.” ~Elaine Scarry

Most days I feel very grateful to live on Green Hill Farm, surrounded by the natural beauty of the mountains and pastures as well as our farm animals and pets. It’s not always easy, but I do feel enriched by the work that we do here and the special interactions we observe and have…
A Prayer In Spring ~ Robert Frost *Read at the Dedication of John F. Kennedy Park, May 29, 1987 Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers today; And give us not to think so far away As the uncertain harvest; keep us here All simply in the springing of the year. Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white, Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night; And make us happy in the happy bees, The swarm dilating round the perfect trees. And make us happy in the darting bird That suddenly above the bees is heard, The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill, And off a blossom in mid air sands still. For this is love and nothing else is love, The which it is reserved for God above To sanctify to what far ends He will, But which it only needs that we fulfill.

Maud has had three visits with the vet for follow-up testing over the past month, and she’s gotten good reports each time. We’ve decreased her prednisone dosage, and thankfully, her platelet and red blood cell counts have climbed. We’re hearing A LOT more howling, […]
“For flowers that bloom about our feet; For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet; For song of bird, and hum of bee; For all things fair we hear or see, Father in heaven, we thank Thee!” –Ralph Waldo Emerson “God has two dwellings; one in heaven, and the other in a meek and thankful heart.” –Izaak Walton
