Friday Farm Favorites: The Artful Chicken

“Barbara,” 11 x 14 oil on canvas

by Donna Whitmore Tuten

This painting of my favorite chicken was given to me as a Christmas gift by our sweet and thoughtful friend, Donna Tuten. Donna is a talented artist with a wonderful range of ability. She paints everything from portraits to landscapes beautifully, and I think she did a fantastic job of capturing this lovable and curious chicken’s personality.  I smile every time I look at it.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Last Night I Dreamed of Chickens

Jack Prelutsky1940

Last night I dreamed of chickens,

there were chickens everywhere,

they were standing on my stomach,

they were nesting in my hair,

they were pecking at my pillow,

they were hopping on my head,

they were ruffling up their feathers as they raced about my bed.

They were on the chairs and tables,

they were on the chandeliers,

they were roosting in the corners,

they were clucking in my ears,

there were chickens,

chickens, chickens

for as far as I could see…

when I woke today,

I noticed there were eggs on top of me.

    • I love the imagery and energy of the poem, and I thought it paired well with Donna’s painting. 😊 You’re right. I have shared her work in the past. Thank you for your kind compliment. I know she’ll appreciate it. Donna also paints glass beautifully. It’s her specialty.

  1. Tonya, I am so happy that you like it and that it makes you smile when you see it. The photograph that you posted made me chuckle as well and made me want to paint her.
I am grateful and blessed to have such a thoughtful and caring person as a friend. Thanks so much for sharing my art. ❤️

My thanks, too, for the kind comments from your followers. ❤️

  2. This made me laugh. I have a picture of a pig looking in a farm window hanging over my windowless kitchen sink. The curious expression is much the same. I named him WilberForce, and we have great chats while I wash the dishes. He agrees with every single thing I say, too.

On the other wall is a large metal tray with roosters and chickens, and I have stacked nesting boxes with a chicken on each side for storage. (in some other life I must have been a farmgirl too!)
