The chicks are about 7 weeks old and looking more and more like miniature chickens these days. They’re finally ready to come out of the coop and explore the outdoors. Although it will be a while before they’re free-ranging in the pasture, these little guys have plenty of room inside the safety of the aviary for now. Today was the first time the chicks have felt the warmth of the sun on their faces and bodies. They were a bit uncertain about leaving their cozy coop, but it wasn’t long until they were out and frolicking in the sunshine. Welcome to their “coming out” party! Here’s a little music to get the party started. 😉
Farmgirl and Lambs Summer 2018 “Where you are is who you are. The further inside you the place moves, the more your identity is intertwined with it. Never casual, the choice of place is the choice of something you crave.” ~Frances Mayes “Any arbitrary turning along the way and I would be elsewhere; I would be different.” ~Frances Mayes Green Hill Farm Through the Years “The leaves fall, the wind blows, and the farm country slowly changes from the summer cottons into its winter wools.” –Henry Beston Green Hill Farm Fall 2014 Happy Tuesday!

Sweet Clover basking in the sun. After days and days of gray weather and rain, we all took a moment last weekend to soak up a little sunshine and enjoy beautiful blue skies. And, it was wonderful! Enjoy your day!
From the restoration of our 1790s home, 1775 cottage where my dad was born, and 200 hundred-year-old barn to the many hours of landscaping and gardening as well as nurturing and caring for our beloved sheep, chickens, dogs, and cats….and deciding to share all of this through my blog, Fourth Generation Farmgirl—it’s been a journey. Thank you so much for […]
Our hen, Barbara Green Hill Farm May 2018 I just love this photo of Barbara. The expression on her face really expresses her sweet and curious personality. “Gratitude bestows reverence, changing forever how we experience life and the world.” ~John Milton (1608-1674) Have a wonderful day!
Green Hill Farm Tuesday, March 13th We’ve enjoyed sunny days, blue skies, greening pastures, and daffodils over the last couple of weeks, and then…..it snowed four inches on Monday. But happily, most of it melted the next day. So, once again, we’re on our way to spring. Happy Thursday!
DaVero Farms & Winery Healdsburg, California March 2018 Farmguy and I are in California this week. Our visit is a combination of wine field trip and birthday celebration. But, before we were able to have a glass of something sparkling to celebrate Farmguy’s special day, we met some very charming representatives of DaVero Farms & Winery. DaVero Farms & Winery is a biodynamic family farm producing small lots of exceptional Italian wine and olive oil in the Dry Creek Valley. Their motto is “Grow what belongs here. Be Patient.”
A while ago, Farmguy and I visited Adam Henson’s Cotswold Farm Park located in Guiting Power—Cheltenham, England. The farm was opened in 1971 by Adam’s father, Joe to help protect some of our rare breeds of farm animal. As the home of rare breed conservation, visitors can meet over 50 flocks and herds of farm animals, including Gloucestershire Old Spot […]

The days are warming up, the daffodils are coming up, the pastures are greening up…and my mood starts lifting up. I know we’re not completely done with winter, yet. But, I sure am grateful for this wonderfully warm weather. And, […]
