My name is Tonya, and I grew up on a 300-acre farm in rural Virginia that has been in my family for over 100 years. After graduating from college, receiving my master’s degree in speech and language pathology, and living and working in a small city for six years, I decided to return to the place of my childhood. Here, in this rural area, on this patch of green, where for four generations my family has farmed, gardened, and lived, I, too wanted to be a part of this continuity. As a fourth generation farmgirl, I have many interests that not only include, but also go beyond the basics of farming, gardening, sheep and chicken-keeping. It is all of this and more that I plan on sharing in this blog.
That is something I am trying to remember Tonya. Such good advice 🙂

What a great quote. I’ve spent many years as a worrier — I should probably tape this to my fridge!

Thank you, Laura. I’ve been a worrier my entire life, too. It’s exhausting. I may put this quote on my fridge as well. It’s worth remembering.

Recently I read about a psychological trait called a negative bias. I wonder if that negative bias applies to every way we look at challenges, problems, changes, new information, other people, etc. ?

I believe it does. Our brains have evolved to focus more on negative events, etc. for reasons of survival; however, on the bright side, seeing things straight and with realism may help us to solve our problems sooner and better. But, unnecessary worry is still wasteful.

Well said, biologically we must stay safe by looking for what is wrong. But our new brain reaches beyond survival to logic and reasons why things happen.

Very difficult (at least for me) but one I keep trying to aspire to!

Torrie, I think it’s difficult for many of us. I struggle with worry and anxiety more often than I like. The important thing is to never give up trying. 🙂
