My name is Tonya, and I grew up on a 300-acre farm in rural Virginia that has been in my family for over 100 years. After graduating from college, receiving my master’s degree in speech and language pathology, and living and working in a small city for six years, I decided to return to the place of my childhood. Here, in this rural area, on this patch of green, where for four generations my family has farmed, gardened, and lived, I, too wanted to be a part of this continuity. As a fourth generation farmgirl, I have many interests that not only include, but also go beyond the basics of farming, gardening, sheep and chicken-keeping. It is all of this and more that I plan on sharing in this blog.

That’s the truth! When Scott and I are having dinner, I’m surrounded by drooling fur balls. Meanwhile, Scott’s enjoying his dinner in peace. He likes to remind me that I’m the one who spoils them. Oh, well—it’s hard not to when they’re so cute! 🐱🐶

😀 my dog will forgive anything almost instantly unless I’m out of treats…. The cat on the other hand takes a day or two. He just looks at me and flicks his tail as if he’s saying “Oh sure, now you want to pet me”.

Thank you so much, Himali! Yes, both Maud and Clementine found their way onto our farm when they were a puppy and kitten. After trying to locate their owners and alerting the local animal shelters, we adopted them. They have wonderful personalities and have enriched our lives greatly!

Thank you. I’ve just always liked the name–Maud, perhaps because of the poem, “Maud” by Tennyson. Clementine kitty is named for Clementine Churchill as I’m an admirer of Winston Churchill. 🙂
