A Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh (1889)

I just started reading the next selection for my book club called, Dark Enough to See the Stars in a Jamestown Sky, by Connie Lapollo.  This book is based on the true story of the women and children at Jamestown.  The following sublime quotes are found within the first pages of this book.

“When it is dark enough, you can see the stars.”

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Though they fell, they fell like stars,

Streaming splendour through the sky.”

~James Montgomery

As I read these quotes, I was reminded that we all face hardship at times; and, the thought occurred to me that even in some of our darkest hours, we often find grace.

Another historical book you might enjoy is The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd.. It’s about the Grimke sisters who were 2 of the first American feminist thinkers and abolition agents. It’s a great book…
