Still waters run deep

Thought I’d share this wonderful poem by the author of Catterel. It’s a great reminder about change.

catterel

The full moon smiled on the water
Pale and still
Till
A casually tossed pebble
Fractured her image
She vanished
And the watery surface silently said
o O O
An ever-widening mouth
Of concentric circles
Not a drop was left in its place
Everything moved
Rippled and swirled
From top to bottom
Of the pool
Nothing was as before
Then
In silence the surface re-formed
Smooth
Still
The moon smiled
The pebble lay still on the bottom
Unaltered.
