Friday Farm Favorites

Bibury Beans, 30″x 30″ mixed media (oil and ink) on canvas

by Katherine Dove

For those of you who follow this blog, you may remember that one of my favorite places to visit is the Cotswolds.  The Cotswolds is an area in south central England that’s about an hour and a half west of London. It includes the counties of Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Somerset, Warwickshire, Wiltshire, and Worcestershire.  The Cotswolds is a place of outstanding beauty with its rolling hills, grasslands, rural landscapes, stone-built villages, historical towns, and stately homes and gardens.  It’s absolutely one of the loveliest places.

Last July, Farmguy and I were visiting Stow-on-the-Wold, a charming market town in the Cotswolds, when we discovered a new art gallery featuring a number of local artists. We fell in love with this painting by Katherine Dove called, Bibury Beans.  It depicts the village of Bibury, often referred to as the most beautiful village in England with its thatched roof cottages.

Katherine Dove’s mixed media painting is one of vivid color and fabulous texture.  I’m not sure if it’s visible in the photograph, but Ms. Dove’s use of oil and ink lends a 3-D effect to the entire landscape.  I really LOVE it!  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Have a wonderful weekend!

  2. Very fine piece of art! I was noticing the vividness of colors that conveys merriment and the bustling foliage that conveys prosperity! The intricate net of leaves and the sky shining through them tells of the precision and dexterity with which it has been painted! Absolutely lovely piece!:)
