Snow Day

Acrostic poetry by Tonya R. Hengerer

Snow

Softly falling–

Not a sound,

Only

Whirling, whirling to the ground.

Winter

When

Icy, cold weather

Naturally interrupts

The warmth

Enjoyed upon Earth

Radiated by the sun.

Shovel

Something with which one

Heaves snow

Out of the way; a

Very useful,

Everyday tool–mostly

Languishing in a shed until winter.

    • That’s really nice! Thanks, Joey. We fill our bird feeders all the time, but especially when snow is in the forecast. The birds seem to know when a storm is eminent, because the activity around the suet and bird feeders significantly increases. It’s a great time to take pictures. 😊

      • I agree to that. I keep my feeders fuller longer by feeding the squirrels other stuff, but I can’t keep them from suet. They’ll shove their lil paws in the cage and pull it apart. It’s cute, but it makes me angry! My chickadees LOVE suet. I all yelled at the squirrels. I’ll One-Liner that sometime 😉
I never can catch good photos of the cardinals, and you got so many! 🙂

      • Squirrels are definitely a challenge. We also have problems with crows eating ALL of the suet–I don’t know how they manage to hold on to the post. Farmguy keeps saying he’s going to grease it. 😉 I love chickadees! They’re one of my favorites.
        Good One-Liner–by the way! 🙂

    • I’m sure! You all certainly had your fair share this winter. It was snowing and sleeting yesterday evening when I published this post, which is actually from two winters ago. The forecast was calling for up to 4 inches of snow–after promising 5-8 inches earlier in the week. However, because the ground was warm, the snow didn’t really stick. And, the wintry mix basically turned to rain. We got lucky! Thanks, Kathryn. 😊

  1. What stunning images … the snow falling, softly blanketing your place, the birds watching then working hard to keep their bodies warm and the dogs, nicely wrapped taking it all in. Your poems top the whole post off beautifully and I so much enjoyed it all 😊

    • Thank you very much. A very Happy Birthday, Amni!! I hope you had a lovely day. 🎈
Yes, it’s a little late in the season for snow. It didn’t last long in Virginia because of the warmer temperatures. However, the Northeastern part of the U.S. got 2-3 feet. Snow is really pretty, but it’s also inconvenient. I would love some of your sunshine right about now. It’s been freezing cold here this week. 🙂

  2. These 💕 are beautiful in words, as well as gorgeous winter scenery! Tonya, the sweet birds on the brick wall or side of building captured my heart, as did your faithful dogs and little shed and barn did. Hard to choose a favorite among such sweet choices! xoxo
