Tuesday Tunes: Something Festive

The house is decorated, the Christmas tree is up, and things are starting to look merry and bright on Green Hill Farm.  Instead of trimming the tree in the usual sheep and chicken theme, I pulled out my antique ornaments that I’ve collected for many years. Most of them are circa 1940s and 1950s, but there are a few gems dating back much earlier–maybe 1930s.  I even have the original boxes for some the sets.  I love the ornaments that are mid-century with their space-age flair, possibly influenced by Sputnik.  Anyway, I decided to share some photos of our Christmas tree as well as Clementine kitty plotting her attack. 🙂

I thought about pairing my favorite Christmas song, “Carol of the Bells” with the photos…..but, you really can’t dance to it.  So, I chose this tune, instead.  I believe there’s something about a bell. Enjoy! 😉

    Love the song. I don’t think I’ve ever heard this on a Christmas special but I like how you think outside the box.
    This is a barn strobe light song if I ever heard one..:)

    • Aww, thanks so much, George. I’ve gotten a lot of joy from collecting these ornaments over the years. It’s always really exciting to find one I don’t have already.
      I agree; it’s a fun song. Gotta love the 70s radio station. 😉 I swear, some of the best dance tunes come from that era! Yeah, I may have to fire up the disco ball later–after all, I bought the extended version of the song. 😊

  6. I love these ornaments! My mom has a few golden angel ones like yours with the bell. Her name is engraved on one, too. I’ve always been quite fond of the old 40’s and 50’s ornaments that have the indentations in them. Love your collection!

  9. What an achingly beautiful tree – full of sparkle but each ornament with a story, a history …. its breathtaking. For now …. since Clemmie Cat is clearly plotting playtime!

  10. Oooh! Love, love, love! Especially the bird, the teapot, the black one, and the translucent blue bell 🙂 Your tree is beautiful!
    I would love to find more of the old-time ornaments, so many of which are familiar. Years ago, when we moved to Georgia, I discovered all my heirloom ornaments were gone. I realize attachment to objects may seem shallow and unseemly, but I cried for several hours. There I was, in that stupid hot place so far from home, my husband about to go to war, and my childhood ornaments were not there to comfort me. Tough times.

      I can completely understand your sadness regarding your heirloom ornaments. I would’ve cried, too. So many memories.

      I’ve found most of my vintage ornaments at local antiques stores and vintage shops. You may want to have a look around one of those places if you’re wanting to start a new collection. 🙂

  11. What a beautiful tree! I adore the antique ornaments. My mother has many of the same ones that have been passed down. We keep ours in decorative vases because big dogs and delicate antiques do not mix well! 🙂

  14. The tree is beautiful Tonya and I ❤️️ all the beautiful antique Christmas ornaments!! Oh what fun it is trying to keep a kitty cat out of the Christmas 🎄. (The entire bottom of my tree is rigged with jingle bells so I know when Jax is up to no good).

  17. Those antique ornaments are rare since many of us accidentally didn’t wrap them well from the moisture so they got spots on them. Or we didn’t use enough wrapping, so they splintered or broke. I have three or four ornaments from my grandparents and parents. This is a precious gift to share this memorable Christmas tree! Thank you! ❤ xo
