Tuesday Tunes: Unconquerable Soul
Bermuda
“Invictus”
Victorian poem by English poet, William Ernest Henley
1849-1903
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
Because….. sometimes, life is a little like a difficult relationship.
“Knock me down it’s all in vain, I get right back on my feet again.”
~Pat Benetar

Thanks for asking, Ritu. I’m fine–just working on “rising above” one or two of life’s stumbling stones. ๐

I think every English man and woman has a soft spot for Blake’s stirring words even if they don’t realise it ๐

Thanks very much, George. Yes, you’re spot on! Very good guess. Have you been there? It’s a lovely place, and the folks who work there are so warm and gracious. ๐

Lol…I think we both stood in the same spot. Loved the view from that pool. Yes, we were there a few years ago. Very nice place, great service, good location. The people were nice throughout the island.

We had just arrived–late afternoon, and I was letting the warmth of the sun and the serenity of this beautiful place wash over me. And then, I exhaled. Thank you, Joey. ๐

To me, it’s an image of quiet defiance–not bowing to difficulties, but looking up and out, facing challenges. ๐
Thank you for your thoughtful words, Kathryn. ๐ xoxo
