“The Weekly Bleat: Growing, Growing!”
With spring around the corner, I thought I would share some fond memories of our sweet chicks from last year. Enjoy!! 🙂
Our newest additions to Green Hill Farm are getting BIG! It’s amazing how quickly these chicks are growing. I think they’ve doubled in size in two short weeks. They’ve already started developing wings as well as demonstrating various chicken behaviors–like scratching for food. I just love these darling, fluff balls and thought I’d share some recent photos with you. Hope you enjoy!

Thank you! These pics are from last year. I couldn’t talk Farmguy into more chicks this spring….maybe next year. These chicks grew into nine hens. They’ve been laying since last fall. 🙂

That is wonderful! The price of eggs in the US is HIGH!

I agree! The prices really went up after the bird flu scare last year. I think millions of hens were slaughtered because of it. Really sad for the hens.
Besides being high, store bought eggs don’t even taste as good as farm eggs. Plus, farm eggs are healthier…1/3 less cholesterol and more antioxidants. 🙂

I agree! Farm fresh eggs are MUCH better than the store bought eggs. After I sent the comment, I realized that you live in the US. I keep thinking you live overseas.

That’s so nice! Thank you. We’re fortunate to have beautiful mountains, rolling pastures, and relaxing beaches in our state. 🙂

That’s really nice! I live in the Four Corners (the corner where the four states, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and Utah, meet) so we are land locked here. We’re about 40 miles from the mountains, which is nice.

They are adorable! We had kept our hatchlings in the kids play room in our basement for the first 8 weeks. It’s funny to see them as adults looking through the glass door from the year, as if they wish to return to their cardboard box.

Thanks, Rob! The play room is a great place for chicks for the first 8 weeks. I’m sure they would LOVE to come back inside…maybe even watch T.V. with the family! 😉 🐓

I swear, in the summer they hop onto the lower deck and watch the boys play inside. It’s so funny! I loved your post and it brought back some wonderful memories.

I’m so happy you enjoyed the post, Rob. That’s really nice of you to say. I love that your chickens watch the boys playing in the house. How cute! Chickens are so curious and intelligent. I really enjoy their little personalities. That’s why I think factory farming is so disgusting and sad. We know how much these lovely animals enjoy exploring and interacting. No sentient being should have to live its life in a tiny cage without sunlight. Okay, I’m getting off my soap box now. 😉

I agree with you, Tonya. We’ve become quite fond of our chickens, and it was devastating to lose one to a fox. They recognize us, and follow us around just like a dog. No animal ought to be confined like that. That’s not living.

I’m so sorry about your chicken, Rob. I know how that feels. 😞
Hopefully, someday soon, there won’t be anymore battery hens. Thanks for doing your part to contribute to a better world with your backyard flock. 🙂

The baby chick’s are adorable! ♡ I did think there were some chubby, medium and some scrawny ones. This is a little like human beings, they come in all colors, shapes and sizes. 😀
