Friday Farm Favorites: Warm Woolly Sheep

Well, it is snowing here on Green Hill Farm, and the weather forecast for Central Virginia is calling for up to 2 feet of snow by the end of the weekend.  So, I thought I would share some favorite photos of our snow-covered farm as well as the perfect hot toddy recipe for this kind of weather.  Fittingly, this cocktail is called a Warm Woolly Sheep.  And, all I know is, if we get 2 feet of snow, I may need a couple of these. 😉

But, before I share the recipe with you, here is one of my most favorite woolly sheep, Hamish.  This photo was taken of Hamish at about 5-months-old, right before shearing.  As you can see, he was quite the fluffy ball of wool.

Warm Woolly Sheep (Hot Toddy)

This cocktail is not too sweet, thanks to the blend of scotch and Drambuie with warm milk. It’s a mildly sweet, creamy, warm drink that makes you feel cozy—perfect for an evening curled up by the fire.  The dominant note here is honey (from the Drambuie), followed by whatever notes are in your preferred scotch. In general, those notes are going to be smoky with some minor influence of fruit.

  • 1 shot scotch

  • 1 1/2 shots Drambuie

  • Warm milk (whole milk is best)

Mix the scotch and Drambuie in the glass of your choice and fill the rest of the way with warm milk.  Enjoy!

Have a wonderful weekend and stay warm!

  1. Adorable…love fluffy farm animals!! Also actually really like the taste of Drambuie, which not everyone does. Will definitely try this recipe! I get my husband to watch Outlander with me by plying him with Oban, so this could help in that department too :o)
