My name is Tonya, and I grew up on a 300-acre farm in rural Virginia that has been in my family for over 100 years. After graduating from college, receiving my master’s degree in speech and language pathology, and living and working in a small city for six years, I decided to return to the place of my childhood. Here, in this rural area, on this patch of green, where for four generations my family has farmed, gardened, and lived, I, too wanted to be a part of this continuity. As a fourth generation farmgirl, I have many interests that not only include, but also go beyond the basics of farming, gardening, sheep and chicken-keeping. It is all of this and more that I plan on sharing in this blog.
Looks sad but beautiful.

You’re right, Susie. The landscape does look a little forlorn without leaves on the trees; however, it’s this starkness that makes it lovely–especially with the fog and blue sky. Thank you. 🙂

Is this a view from the farm?

This is not a view from the family farm. The picture was taken from a small, 1950s cottage on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The cottage is part of an old farm and orchard.

Yes–I think so. Very similar.

I assume that this is near the Blue Ridge Mountains? I’ve got John Denver’s Country Roads humming in my mind right now, Tonya. Beautiful photo!

Thanks so much, Rob. Yes, it is. It’s actually very close to the North Carolina border near Mount Airy. Mount Airy is the town Mayberry was based on in the T.V. classic, “The Andy Griffith Show.”

Thank you. Based on your lovely photographs of Poland, I’ll take that as a compliment. 😊
Actually, now that you mention it, this photo does remind me a bit of some of the photos from your post, ‘One last glance.’ Maybe it’s the bare trees and fog. 🙂

Right, doesn’t it? ☺ if I were to move out from where I live, I would do everything to get such view from a window! Peaceful…

That’s very kind. 🙂 It’s such a peaceful place where the only noises are chirping birds and the wind. I love spending time there.
