My name is Tonya, and I grew up on a 300-acre farm in rural Virginia that has been in my family for over 100 years. After graduating from college, receiving my master’s degree in speech and language pathology, and living and working in a small city for six years, I decided to return to the place of my childhood. Here, in this rural area, on this patch of green, where for four generations my family has farmed, gardened, and lived, I, too wanted to be a part of this continuity. As a fourth generation farmgirl, I have many interests that not only include, but also go beyond the basics of farming, gardening, sheep and chicken-keeping. It is all of this and more that I plan on sharing in this blog.
Lovely and familiar! That’s what the ‘meadow’ of my back forty looks like right now. How high that Joe-Pye weed has grown with all this rain we’ve had! I won’t traipse out into it though, because I’ll disturb all the bunnies and I’ll probably get ticks 😉
But I do admire it — particularly when the lightning bugs light it up!

Thanks, Joey. The meadows are thick and lush with all of the rain. I don’t blame you for not wanting to disturb the bunnies….and ticks. I stayed on the edge and appreciated it from a safe distance. 🙂
I admire a meadow, too. There’s just something serene and beautiful in a field of flowers that just sprang up on its own—I guess it’s the tangled, unkempt wildness of it. And, of course, the lightening bugs are a bonus! 🙂

It’s like a meadow that Normal Rockwell would paint. Beautiful!

Thanks, Deborah. The butterflies have been lovely. Sometimes I’ll count half a dozen at a time on one bush. 🙂

I love your description of the pictures. Very vivid! And, it’s so quiet, too. You can only hear the birds and the wind.

Very beautiful. Our meadows are similar in Canada, the milkweed, Queen’s Lace (sometimes called wild carrot), brown eyed Susan’s, and those tasty looking blackberries. Yum, I could just taste one, looking at your picture. The one plant I don’t recognise is the deep purple one with the butterflies.
Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Thank you, Carl. Your Canadian meadows sound lovely, too. The flower you didn’t recognize is called a butterfly bush. Thanks for visiting! 🙂
