Tuesday Tunes: Life’s a Bowl of Cherries….Not Really, But That’s Okay.
Life isn’t perfect. It’s not supposed to be. It’s supposed to be REAL: a messy “learning lab” of experiences, mistakes, and practicing our ability to reflect on all of it—hopefully cultivating a positive outlook. An outlook that creates a meaningful, beautiful, and one-of-a-kind life. A life we can share by loving and uplifting others…..and, ultimately, ourselves.
So, here’s the thing: Life isn’t a picture-perfect bowl of cherries, but with the right perspective, we just may end up with a banana split. Yes, a messy dessert to be sure, especially with all of the gooey, melting, and sticky syrups, ice creams, sauces, and whipped cream; but, you know what? Those garnishes sure do make that banana a lot more interesting….and definitely worth enjoying!
After all, it’s the messy stuff in life that teaches us to be our best selves. And, let’s be real….being our best selves is truly the “cherry on top” of the banana split of life.

It was yummy! I made two trips to Dairy Queen for the banana split pics–forgot my linen the first time. 🍧

Thanks so much. I think any dessert with ice cream and that many toppings could make us feel better! It was quite a treat. 🙂

I agree. Sometimes it’s just better not to count calories. 🙂
I ended up visiting our local Dairy Queen restaurant twice as I needed a couple more shots of the banana split. The second set of pics looked more attractive since the young man preparing the dessert was much more particular and artistic with his presentation. 🙂

So true 🙂 I would much rather life be a Banana Split. While the bowl of cherries looks perfect you still have to spit out he pits right?. But with the banana split you just get to enjoy it all 🙂

Thanks, Mel. Good point about the pits–not so perfect after all! 😉

I love this….it is all our memories, experiences, mistakes, etc…that make us who we are today. We carry everyone and all our “life events” inside us…it is all of this that makes us whole and feeds our souls.

Great post! I’m so glad I stumbled upon your blog. You have such an interesting story! After moving to NYC from 15 acres in the Texas Hill Country, I feel like I am finding out more and more that I belong back there ; ) Although, not quite yet, as I am still enjoying NYC. But anyways…love your blog and farm life inspiration!

Mmmmm. Now I want dessert. My life definitely feels like a messy learning lab of mistakes. I figure if I keep from making the same mistakes over and over then I’m doing okay… 🙂

I think we all can relate to the “learning lab of mistakes,” but you make an excellent point. 🙂

Thanks so much, Judy. That’s really nice of you to say. I actually forgot the colorful linen to place under the dessert the first time I visited Dairy Queen (restaurant). And, the little shriveled cherry they used was kind of sad. When I got home, I realized my pictures weren’t very appealing. So, I went back the next day with a pretty linen and a bag of my own cherries in tote. By the time I arrived at the restaurant, it was busy. Anyway, I ordered my banana split, headed over to a table out of the way, spread the linen on the table, replaced sad cherry with one from home, and then started snapping pictures as if the banana split were a model in a photo shoot! I’m sure the patrons of Dairy Queen thought I was nuts. 🙂 So, your kind comment warmed my heart…..the second trip to get a better picture was worth it! 🙂
I LOVE that tune, too! 😊

Reblogged this on fourth generation farmgirl and commented:
This has been a bit of a “banana split” year for me. And, as I reflected on various events and my feelings, I remembered this post and its message: Life isn’t a bowl of cheeries…..but that’s okay, because the messy banana split is more enjoyable.
Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend! I hope it’s the cherry on top of a great summer!! 🙂
