Friday Farm Favorites: A Visit With Carla Dirlikov

A number of years ago my husband and I had the great pleasure of meeting Carla Dirlikov, a mezzo-soprano and world class opera singer, at a dinner event for our local opera, Opera Roanoke.  A performance of Bizet’s Carmen was planned with Ms. Dirlikov in the lead.  Not only is Carla Dirlikov an amazing talent, she is also a humanitarian, animal lover, and a gracious friend.  Upon meeting her, Carla’s warmth and sincerity are immediately evident.  She was more interested in learning about the people she spoke with than talking about herself.  She shared her interest in animals as well as our farm and asked if she could come for a visit and meet our sheep.  Of course, we were thrilled to have her visit!

Here are a few photographs of Carla’s day on Green Hill Farm.  Hamish (sheep) and Maud (Blue Tick Hound) especially enjoyed the visit.  I love the photograph of Maud serenading Carla with her Blue Tick Hound howl!

    • Hey Doug! It was such a thrill to meet Carla, and her interest in our farm was flattering. Carla is such a humble and down-to-earth person who really enjoys connecting with others. She not only charms people with her beautiful voice but also with her sincere nature.

  1. Carla has always been an outstanding person. I had the privilege of teaching her and her brothers in high school and am so proud of all that she has become and does. There aren’t enough positive adjectives to use to describe Carla.
